KEO's master plan for Onaizah incorporates retail, resdential and recreation
Onaizah is a rapidly developing city located in the Oasis Region within the heart of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia equidistant from the Red Sea to the west and the Arabian Gulf to the east. The development includes retail, sporting and recreational facilities together with a 4-star hotel, chalet complex and cultural facilities totalling 160,000 sq m GFA. To respond to the local culture and heritage, the development components are carefully placed across the site, emulating Saudi Arabia’s traditional hill side villages, while making best use of the site topography in order to enhance views, identity and privacy so families can come together and socialise in many different ways to satisfy varying needs.
Vernacular architectural allows the creation of a unique building fabric, generating a wide array of open spaces best serving the local culture outdoor living, with a diversity of courtyard gardens providing families with enhanced privacy and protection from the extremes with landscaping borrowing elements from the local and regional farmlands and oases, creating a unifying layer for the development and enhancing the local identity. The design approach will bring the project to a human scale, where the buildings become part of the landscape and the landscape part of the buildings, generating diverse stages for family interaction in a unique atmosphere generating a strong sense of belonging and pride for the community, and a must experience oasis for the travellers and visitors.
