A master plan in response to the revitalisation and regeneration of the centre becoming a major priority
The future plan for Cleveland is unique in that it brings together the idea of progress and growth with idea of a traditional bayside village. To achieve this, the Master Plan addresses the often conflicting issues of growth and scale to ensure a future city evolves that is personal, and supports the lifestyle of the community as well as the individual. AECOM has worked collaboratively with PSA Consulting and in partnership with Redland City Council to ensure the future growth of Cleveland continues to contribute to the unique character of the area through the definition of design and planning strategies to sustainably guide the centres evolution. The need to establish a process that would help the Cleveland Community engage and embrace the idea of change, of future possibilities and of new ways of living, helping them take ownership and inform the required evolution of the centre was a critical consideration for the project team in determining the Master Plan development strategy. A process was adopted that sought, as a first principle, to draw out and translate the community’s aspirations and needs into an engaging narrative that would provide the corner stone for all project considerations from the outset. A vision statement was crafted that succinctly presented a desired future character for the centre, and of the lifestyle of its residents and visitors. As the project evolved the statement was translated into a visual narrative to enhance its effectiveness and contribution to the community engagement process.
