University of Kansas's Studio 804 Designs and Builds Mod4
Studio 804 is a student run design build program at the University of Kansas in which all aspects of the building process, from initial design through finished construction, are carried out over a nine month span. The vehicle used for this exhaustive experience is an affordable, entry-level house located in a marginal neighborhood of Kansas City. Our most recent project, Mod 4, continues our emphasis of sustainable architecture; features include: the revitalization of an abandoned brownfield site, the use of StabiliGrid, a permeable pavement system made from 100% recycled post-consumer polyethylene, and reconstituting aluminum panels, among many others. Flexibility in spatial configuration is achieved through the use of moveable wardrobes along the interior core of service areas, allowing the house to respond to client needs.
