Oli Mahmud Architects present a green commitment in Bangladesh

Expanding urbanisation of Dhaka city creates higher pace growth in the residential sector. Following this, trail property developer Stripling Properties Ltd. has ventured a new apartment project in the Pallabai residential area, designed by Oli Mahmud Architects.

The scheme contains a 10-storey apartment with two luxurious living units at each level while the ground level serves for parking and public access to the building. The vertical core and fire exit is placed at the rear side to maximise the front south-facing exposure. This allows the summer breeze and winter sun at regular habitable areas of the living quarters.

The basic design strategy of the project is manipulated by a casually placed green balcony at the front, whereby each unit can enjoy their own personal green corner. The three-dimensional array of the veranda at alternative altitudes creates a random effect on the façade, which has been unified by inserting a rectangular outer frame. This provides a bold and distinct architectural expression of the project. Interestingly, due to dislocations of balconies at multiple heights, overhead space has been achieved at the green areas and thus becoming a means of socialising among the floors.

The construction work started in November 2009. Fifty percent of structural framework has already been completed and the expected date of inhabitation is considered to be in the last quarter of 2011.
