Studio RHE complete resort town and marina masterplan for Croat site with relative ease

Designs have been released for a new resort town and marina at the ‘Three Sisters’ site, 12km north of Dubrovnik in Croatia. London-based architecture firm Studio RHE worked with environmental consultants PHA Consult on a plan that is directly inspired by the local topography and building materials, nestled in the hidden coves of the Dalmatian coastline. The 5,000 ha site will provide unspoiled views across the Mediterranean, an area popular with holiday makers and sailing enthusiasts alike.

Dubbed as potentially the ‘World’s Greatest Sustainable Development’ by developers ‘The Profectus Group’, the expansive site offers great potential for environmental design. Architect Richard Hywel Evans said “The Client has travelled with us around not only the local region but much further afield to experience the world’s best and less successful large scale developments, so we have been able to build a shared vocabulary of the best design. This has allowed us to start with a truly fresh approach to this extraordinary site in the middle of Europe.”

He continued: “Furthermore given the fact that Croatia is blessed with 40% of days of comfortable temperate weather and coastal breezes every day, we are starting with a very suitable place for renewable energies and truly self-sustainable design opportunities.”
