Daoust Lestage Inc. completes new centre for the YMCA
Located on the corner of an important boulevard and a residential street of a northern area of Montreal, Cartierville Y Centre presents itself as a pavilion glowing through a screen of vegetation.
Orientated along an east-west axis, the building itself is split into two volumes of two and three storeys each that form a continuity with the surrounding residential neighbourhoods to the north and south of the site.
From the outside, the building's generous fenestration allows a rapid reading of the program. From the inside, a similar visual continuity is afforded between the different spaces as well as with the outdoors.
A 25m pool and a gym take up the lower level of the building. They can be seen from above upon entering the linear ground floor lobby which also serves to organise the project's circulation. On the upper level, a track, a studio, a fitness centre and multifunctional rooms are placed on either side of the building's main axis. They benefit from open views to each other as well as elevated views towards the lobby, pool and gym below.
Thanks to the generous transparency of its spaces, both inwards and outwards, Cartierville Y Centre confirms a genuine desire of openness towards its community.
