Hariri & Hariri Break Ground in Salzburg
New York based and Iranian born sisters Gisue and Mojgan Hariri have broken ground on an $80 million luxury residential mixed-use complex on the last remaining large scale building site in the heart of Salzburg, Austria.
The duo won the commission in an international competition.
The project involves the reuse of two historic buildings that comprise the former Sternbrauerei (Stern Brewery) site and the construction of six new buildings. The complex will include eighty luxury residences, exhibition space for the House of Architecture, a five star restaurant, spa facilities, garden spaces and a public waterside promenade on a five-acre site located at the foot of the Rainberg Mountains.
The “shard like” forms of the new buildings, which will be constructed of limestone and glass, are inspired by the neighbouring rock formations and random compositions of the Rainberg quarry.
Gisue Hariri says of the project “ This is conceptually the culmination of nearly twenty years’ work for us. It is our largest and most multifaceted project to date. We hope Sternbrauerei will become a beloved landmark for its residents citizens and travelers to Salzburg”
The project is scheduled for completion in 2009.
