why most of the futuristic project have a cloudy gray environment.......why not a shiny bright future. The design is a generalized idea for future world, not very specified for Rome......................


Delve into Rome’s architectural future with these intriguing innovative designs from OFL 

Enoki Rome Ecocity is a futuristic ideological proposal from OFL Architecture, as part of an investigation into the possibilities of future housing. The firm suggest that ‘achievements in material science, energy conservation, aerodynamic and environmental solutions allow designers to experience new housing typologies’. Taking this to the extreme, OFL have designed a self-sufficient, self-contained city to be installed above the existing historical city of Rome. To replace the comparatively outdated lift system, the 6,000 residents would be transported up the 150 storey building via external flying shuttles. At an vast 240, 000 sq m, the structures have a useful space-saving characteristic, especially with the rapidly expanding global population. Designs for the outer skin of the Enoki Eco-city include steel diamond-shaped panels, following the main cellular structure of the buildings made from steel and glass forming a molecular shape.

OFL’s second innovative design is entitled ‘Pontepigneto Instant Bridge’ and is based on the theory that ‘city buildings in the past were typically inhabited and...were perfectly blended with the surrounding housing style’. In an effort to subvert this traditional approach, OFL have composed designs for the ‘Instant Bridge’ in an attempt to further develop the artistic characteristics of Rome’s Pigneto district. Spanning 14 storeys at a height of 45m, the steel structure would be produced using recycled rails procured from disused railways. Each of the 14 levels is designed for a different purpose, using low cost and recyclable materials, such as non-toxic paint. As the main structure, facade and interior spatial elements merge into a single three-dimensional form, the bridge is designed to be ultra-efficient, requiring 30% less steel than a structure consisting of pillars and beams.
