Small house integrates well into mountainside
Rocky retreat
This house located on a very steep site with little stone support walls that are so frequent in Madeira’s landscaping.
The house is small, 66 square metres, and consists of a sitting room with a small kitchen, a bathroom and a bedroom. The architects aimed for the construction to be as indiscernible as possible, as if it was part of the existing stone walls. The formal solution is described in the land. The architecture is based on what already existed that means the stone walls. The house thus forges a connection with its environment, thanks to the views of the sea and the mountains and the garden areas that surround the house.
