Edward Cullinan Architects design the Gateway building in Edinburgh
Edward Cullinan Architects’ Gateway building will offer visitors an unrivalled facility to discover the world of plants and the scientific work of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.
A large permanent exhibition will explain the importance of plants and is a major feature of the building’s design; a curved glass wall will give panoramic views out onto a new biodiversity garden. And a Real-Life Science Lab will provide a platform for scientists to engage with the public and explore important issues such as the effects of climate change. This will feature media facilities for presentations and seminar discussions with the Garden’s research teams stationed around the world.
Built of timber, glass and stone, the Gateway building will be a showcase for sustainable design with a range of renewable energy systems and materials, which together will provide a portion of the centre’s electricity and be used to inform the public about different forms of renewable energy.
