NKY's designs for Ankara's new medical campus takes a big step to redefining Turkey's approach to healthcare
Etlik Health Campus will be constructed on a 1,600,000 sq m area in Etlik which is located in the heart of Ankara, the capital of Turkey.
Besides the 600,000 sq m medical campus area, there is underground parking with the capacity for 8143 cars.
There will be six main hospitals in Etlik health facility: a 504 bed general hospital, 328 bed cardiovascular hospital, 432 bed orthopaedics / neurology, 496 bed children’s hospital, 344 bed women’s hospital and 328 bed oncology hospital. Additionally, psychiatry and physical treatment and rehabilitation hospitals will be designed in another area within the campus. 120 operating rooms and an emergency department, which will be able to serve 3,000 patients daily, are also included in the campus program. As for polyclinics, they will have the capacity to handle 30,000 patients daily.
Imaging, surgery areas, main laboratories, emergency departments and main logistic areas are designed to be located in a common and central place. Polyclinics and patient care units are also set up around an indoor concourse which connects these common areas and reflects the atmosphere of a rich street. The concourse enables the connection between the hospitals as well. By this means, all distances inside the campus are shortened and a more secure, efficient and faster service performance is acquired.
Adjoining the six freestanding hospitals is a treatment base, connecting the specialised services and staff, making it possible for all hospitals to benefit from this central area. This treatment base is the most innovative aspect of the design and helps to foster a community of collaboration.
Sustainable design and environmental requirements are also integrated into the planning of the facility.
