The rise of Rhine's riverside in Cologne-Deutz
So far, the city of Cologne has neglected the Right Bank of the Rhine, while urban life took place on the left side of the river. Nowadays, the expanding city calls for an urban development solution, which associates both sides. The winning contribution to the European competition went for a continuous 400m-promenade along the riverside, including a generous flight of stairs for a panoramic view, a media beach with swimming pontoons and a play zone for action and recreation. The relation of both banks is a chance to return the look of the famous Cologne-skyline, attaching both sides through the river, using the former city border as a connecting element.
