Planning permission granted for substantial addition to Sotheby’s historic building in New Bond Street

Paul Davis + Partners have developed a contemporary design-led structure that creates an additional 400m2 of dynamic and flexible gallery and exhibition space for Sotheby’s historic New Bond Street complex. The structure will float dramatically above the auctioneer’s central gallery lantern-lights, redefining the site both contextually and programmatically without breeching the roofline of the original buildings. The light–weight steel structure, clad in both metal sheeting and full height glazing, will serve as a chain-link between the New Bond Street and St George Street complexes by extending existing lift and stair cores at the North and South edges of the site and the addition of a spiral staircase with a glass enclosed bridge connection to the rear of 35 New Bond Street.
