Multi family housing in Hipodromo Condesa, Mexico City

multi family housing in Hipodromo Condesa, Mexico City by Taller 13 (elias cattan + patricio guerrero) Located in the hip and central Hipódromo Condesa neighborhood in Mexico City lays Ámsterdam a tree lined and elliptical avenue with the memory of an old horse race track (hippodrome). A six storey building with a rooftop terrace and underground parking springs up from an almost square lot with straight lines and axes. There are 25 living units on two floors and a single floor unit which makes it a total of 26. It’s configured in 9 different typologies, from 1 to 3 bedrooms, 95m2 to 280m2, double heights and/or private terraces. On the back of the building plants grow on a structure made out of steel and wire through out the whole back façade. In the central courtyard are the lifts, cantilevered stairway and wooden deck bridge. A tree “floats” in the center. This Courtyard is like the old Mexican vecindades (multi-housing). The main façade is composed of a matrix of modules and partitions making each interior space unique. It is detailed in laminated green grass taking the green off the trees and onto the building. The double heights stand out by vertical glass/frame on another plain. A stone plinth on the ground floor gives privacy and security. The inner façades are composed of window modules in different sizes and positions responding to the activities inside. The rooftop terrace has Jacuzzis, a fabric tension structure, wooden decks and furnishings for the enjoyment of open air urban dwelling and great views of the city. A lot of importance was given to all the vegetation and lighting design.
