Open workspace is central feature in new office for design firm, Indes

In between the Technical University of Twente and a football stadium, the Science Park Twente (where the office building is located) is situated near a local train station. The idea behind this project was to create a more inspirational structure for the park. The client, Indes, is an industrial design firm that designs highly technical appliances, whose specification was for a building that would suit their status: smart and user friendly, with a strong identity.

The design attempts to combine all of this information. Open workspace is the central issue of this office design, as all of the design studios are in direct contact with a central void, situated in the high part of the building, at the side of the railway. Service space such as toilets and storage are situated in the middle zone, acting as the spine of the building’s lower section. The inclusion of mobile furniture regulates the flexible use of the building.

The building has an efficient scheme that does not result in a static plan. Although the form of the building distinguishes the structure from its neighbours in the surrounding area, it mainly signifies an energetic purpose. The high space causes a natural draft in order to carry away the ventilated air. An additional heat pump that extracts energy from the soil both heats and cools the building.
