Built on the dried up river bed of the River Turia which once flowed through Valencia this enormous opera house is the latest in a string of architectural icons which collectively form the city of arts. Making his mark on his home city, Calatrava has already completed a bridge, museum, art centre, sea-life centre and cinema and plans for the future include a cluster of high rise apartments. As Spain’s third largest city, Valencia is clearly aiming to add a Barcelona effect in time for the 2007 America’s Cup challenge.
