Beyer Blinder Belle architects design tallest towers in Washington D.C area
Two high-rise structures which, when built, will be the tallest buildings in the Metropolitan DC area have gotten approval. The towers, designed by the New York firm Beyer Blinder Belle, are part of a two block, mixed-use development known as Central Place. Located in downtown Rossyln, a suburb of Washington DC, the complex consists of a 31-storey office building and a 30-storey residential building that together will house 1.4 million square feet of space.
Central Place will provide 529,000 square feet of office space, 350 residential units, 44,500 square feet of retail space and seven levels of parking for approximately 821 cars. The uppermost level of the commercial tower features a 10,000 square foot observation deck that will afford 360- degree views of the Nation’s Capital region. Located between the glass and steel towers will be a 17,000 square foot public plaza that will support such amenities as outdoor dining, a water feature and three high-speed Metro elevators.
The project will be LEED certified. Ground breaking is planned for 2008 with completion anticipated in 2010.
