WHY DOES WIDNES GET ALL THIS NEW STUFF IT's STUPID WE AIN'T HAD ANYTHIN NEW SINCE THE SHOPPIN CITY???
12/01/10 Jon, Widnes
In response to the below comments Runcorn has had a new cinema built recently along with the new shops surrounding the cinema. Considering Widnes does not currently have a cinema i find the comments "Widnes gets everything" and "its unfair" totally unfounded.

Typcal small minded comments from runcorn yet again, dont recall much objection when the shopping city was built and Widnes was a one street town, you have as much as Widnes up at halton lea bar an ice rink. If you dont like it then go shop in warrington. Better still support your own traders and perhaps so many of them woudnt bail out ie the old town .

RPS designs the Venture Fields Leisure Complex in Cheshire

The project includes an Ice Rink, LaserZone, Bowling alley and a 6 screen Cinema with support retail and restaurant functions. It forms the principle project in the Widnes Waterfront Regeneration Scheme. It is equivalent to the length of the QE2 cruiseship times twice its width. The concept utilises 3 large metal double wave roofs with troughs and peaks intersecting along the 200m long string of buildings . Large colourful geometric trapezoidal box shapes are used to dramatic effect to create and signify entrances to the various leisure functions on site. The design is intended to give a strong visual presence both during the day and by night. The project will feature heat recycle technology as well as measures designed to re-use grey water from the massive roofs. Start on site by end of 2007 and complete later in 2008.
