New intelligent controller offers simple, stylish building control

Energy-efficient buildings play an increasing role in mitigating challenging climate changes. Intelligent components in buildings equipped with sensors and actors can automatically adjust the sunlight or the lighting of rooms at night. Heating and cooling can also be tuned to optimise comfort with the lowest energy consumption for the inhabitants. But a smart infrastructure in the building also provides people with security systems, music, video or Internet connections.

With the ABB Busch pri-On intelligent controller, the communication of the user with the system is highly intuitive and similar to platforms people are familiar with in modern information and communication systems. Intuitive touch screens allow broad and flexible control of all infrastructure in the building and even provide information about the electricity consumption and the news or weather report, while the music of Sebastian Bach is playing in the bedroom upstairs.

Adjustment of room functions can be simply achieved by using the Busch pri-On's intuitive rotary knob, enabling manipulation of multiple room functions. The 3.5 inch TFT display screen shows all information in clear text, with symbols representing each room function. To help make individual controls easy to recognise and adjust, each room function corresponds to a different colour - lighting is yellow, blind control is blue, indoor climate-heating is orange and scenes are purple.

A ‘scene save' function allows the user to attribute specific titles to their favourite room settings, which can easily be called up at any time with a single turn of the jog wheel.

This feature is further enhanced by a timer feature, which allows users to program specific settings for certain times of the day. Functions within the timer include an alarm clock plus automated control of heating, lighting and blinds.

As well as the rotary knob/pushbuttons, the Busch pri-On also includes remote control capability. Provided there is line-of-sight between the panel and the remote control pad, the device can be remotely operated from the comfort of an armchair.

The Busch pri-On incorporates 21 languages and is available in four design versions: in gloss white, glass white, glass black and stainless steel with special anti-fingerprint coating. Once installed, the device can be integrated with ABB's i-bus KNX intelligent installation system as a source of control within a building.
