Planning granted for office development in Dhaka
The special panel of Dhaka City Development Authority has granted permission for initial designs of Malik Tower, the new mixed-use proposal from Oli Mahmud Architects. The 10-storey scheme is an initiative of City Technology Limited.
Located at Pragati Sarani, a developing area of Dhaka, the site is currently used as a timber warehouse. The tower will be adjacent to the recently initiated urban reformation Hatirjheel Project encompassing the renovation of Begunbari canal with public areas and a link from the east to the west block of Dhaka through DIT Extension road. The works are expected to encourage further transformation in the area along with economical growth.
Currently in its initial designs, a rectangular form shapes the basic structure, while the frontal glass façade has been conceived as the aesthetic design element. The surface has been treated as a pixelated membrane composed of different shades of glass which will also capture the panoramic view of the nearby Begunbari canal.
Currently in design development it is estimated that five more levels may be added, in accordance with building regulations to provide retail, banking and corporate habitations.
