Sports stadium architect scores £4m planning win for Fleetwood Town

Sports stadia designer, the Frank Whittle Partnership (FWP), has won planning consent for Fleetwood Town football team's new £4 million redevelopment plans in Lancashire.

The North West England architecture and design practice has drawn up the plans for a new 2,000-seat three tier stand at Highbury which will house community, commercial, corporate and club facilities. The stand will also have up to five executive boxes, a lounge, facilities to serve the adjacent Memorial Park pitches and an IT suite. It will include the club's own changing rooms, admin offices, physiotherapy and kit rooms and club shop.

FWP is known for utilising stadium space on non-match days bringing additional revenue into clubs and has designed more than a dozen high-profile stadium developments for football, rugby clubs and racecourse owners.

It's plans mark the final phase of the ambitious Blue Square North League club’s project to increase the capacity of Highbury Stadium to 5,000, meeting Football League requirements.

Brent Clayton, a partner at FWP, said: “Fleetwood Town is ambitious and wants to be a Football League club sooner rather than later...The vision of the club, which we have helped them realise, is for greater community and corporate involvement to give Fleetwood Town the status and facilities necessary to compete at higher levels in football.”

Work is expected to begin imminently on the new stand.
