BURO II revamp Royal racecourse
On the site of Ostend’s former Royal Racetrack, the Wellington Golf Residence sits within a 9-hole championship golf course designed by Baron Paul Rolin in 2007. The hotel, consisting of 114 apartments, has been developed by Dutch architecture firm BURO II and is part of a larger development plan to include a cinema, sports complex, shopping centre and office space. The firm has already completed the renovation of the clubhouse.
The Wellington Golf Residence has been built to accommodate a column structure, which allows for flexible usage in the future. BURO II’s concept for the hotel is based on the pedestrian flow - starting from the foyer by the Royal galleries along the golf course. Large glass surfaces and white concrete are prominent in the maritime-inspired design. The volume of the building follows the projection and sight lines of the rooms and minimises its presence over the monumental view. Subsequently, the concession areas on the first floor offer magnificent views of the golf course.
