Transparency, innovation and sustainability is the ambition for the new city hall in Lund Sweden

Christensen & Co Architects (CCO) have won the international design competition to design the 'greenest city hall in Sweden'. In Lund, the ambition is to create a transparent and extrovert city hall, that encompasses the spirit of the open and democratic society that characterises Lund and Sweden. At the same time the new city hall aims to be the greenest in Sweden.

Almost 80 architects from all of Europe applied for the competition to design the new city council. In addition to CCO, the shortlist included well-known architects such as 3XN (Denmark), Tony Fretton (UK), Lund&Valentin arkitektur (Sweden) and FOJAB Arkitekter (Sweden).

The 25,000 sq m building will be constructed in two phases. Detailed design of the first phase is already under way and the Municipality has allocated 33.5 m Euros for this stage due for completion in 2012.

Among the other recent projects the young CCO practice is currently designing biotech research building, a university campus for the University of Stockholm. In Denmark it has recently completed the first carbon neutral public building, Green Lighthouse, at University of Copenhagen, and is designing Denmark’s first energy producing nursery, SunHouse, due to start the construction phase in March.
