Path paved for £2.5million Fulham residential

3DReid has submitted its £2.5 million Wyfold Road project, in upmarket Fulham for planning. It is their first purely private residential development in London and signals what the practice believes to be an upturn in the sector’s fortunes.

The plans, for client Freshwater, are for 9 flats over 5 floors but include 4 different types all designed to Lifetime Homes Standard – 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom units, 3-bedroom duplexes and a penthouse, set back on the top floor. The building replaces an existing commercial building in a primarily residential street that is no longer fit for purpose.

Mike Hickey, Divisional Director at 3DReid said: “We have designed a simple but high quality stone façade, which creates a rigour and geometry representative of the existing strong rhythm of the street. The introduction of copper bands gives flexibility to the grid, reflecting the different flat types behind, while giving the façade some warmth. The penthouse is designed with frameless glazing with the sides finished in zinc, mirroring the colour of the existing roofs.”

He added: “As the building is single aspect we have put the staircases and lift to the rear but have created an open, full-height space, which will allow the maximum amount of natural daylight into the entrance, creating a dramatic first impression.”

Phil Hughes from Freshwater said: “This is the first of a number schemes which we are promoting to convert obsolete commercial buildings within our portfolio to residential use in a sensitive and sustainable manner. We feel that 2010 represents an opportunity to bring some of these ideas to maturity and provides a springboard to deliver well designed and located buildings into a recovering market. 3DReid and the rest of the development team have produced a scheme of which we can be proud and will give us confidence for the future”.
