400 interactive lights covered the main plaza of downtown Montreal

400 interactive points of light were spread across the Place des Festivals in the Quartier des Spectacles, Montreal through the winter. The Champ de pixels aimed to reopen to the public urban space in winter for nordic cities.

In keeping with the principles of the Quartier des Spectacles Lighting Plan, Champ de pixels was an installation and experience that rendered activity as light. Like a gigantic “Lite-Brite,” Champ de pixels was made up of hundreds of illuminated 18-inch pixels equipped with motion sensors, installed over 40,000 sq ft. When they detected movement, the sensors changed the illumination of the pixel from red to white and back again.

The temporary artistic landscape was filmed continuously from above, and the endless modulations generated by participants seen on the official site of the installation at www.champdepixels.tv

design : Jean Beaudoin and Erick Villeneuve
