New house near Singapore's hillside gold course from K2LD

This house is one of several privileged residences perched on the slope next to the only hillside golf course in Singapore with the advantage of a beautiful view of the downtown skyline. The Scanlon Residence distinguishes itself from its neighbours with a unique architectural expression. 2 diagonally folded pitched roofs float above the mass of the house, appearing to hover in mid flight. Come evening, the golden teak colour of the underside of the roof blends seamlessly with the rich colour of the setting sun.

Designed to take advantage of the view to the golf course and the sea beyond, the swimming pool is deliberately placed at the same level as the entrance. When one enters the house, the shimmering surface of the water merges with the green of the golf course and connects with the distant sea and city skyline beyond. This visual connection with the water begins at the entry and living room level to heighten the sense of arrival.

The courtyard links the various volumes spread over 3 storeys in the house to a central Oku – a spiritual void. This vertical axis connects the ground to the sky and brings light into the basement. The sea breeze flows through the courtyard and is drawn through the permeable façade of the house.

With the lights of the big city in the distance, this house is a secure oasis for the family. Upon entry a relaxed and opened style kitchen is integrated with the family area. On the right is a dining room connected directly to the living area. Upstairs, away from the buzz of guests, are two children's rooms with en suites, a master bedroom, study and a walk in wardrobe. In the basement, a guest room, study, children’s games room, a workroom and maids’ quarter connect the house to the land and surrounding greenery next to the golf course.

The Hillside Residence is strongly connected to the land and the sloping terrain and is a hillside sanctuary that redefines modern vernacular houses in Singapore.
