Lee Polisano.....

A damning book review in the London Financial Times this weekend spiraled off page into a tirade of criticisms lambasting the UK’s architects for producing, “Cheapened, commercialised, modernism, stripped of its idealism and intelligence”. Edwin Heathcote writing about New London Architecture 2 and New York 2000, clearly used the review as a thinly veiled excuse to have a dig at London’s architecture.

At one point Heathcote said, “ For every Gherkin, there are two dozen turnips” going on later to remonstrate, “London may be competing for status as the hub of global finance but it is in danger of believing its own hype about the quality of architecture.”

International practice Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF) known for building skyscrapers around the world are currently building The Pinnacle (formerly Bishopsgate Tower), which will be the tallest building in the City district.

WAN’s Michael Hammond talks exclusively to Lee Polisano, KPF’s president about the differences between architecture in London and New York.
