Team + wins housing design competition for responsible living 

A project collaborative called Team+ has won the Housing+ design competition a zero energy residential concept based around sustainability and high architectural quality. Comprising Architects ARKITEMA, Leif Hansen Consulting Engineers A/S, Esbensen Consulting Engineers A/S, FAKTOR 3 Aps, DONG Energy, Thornton Thomassetti, Housing Organisation Ringgården and BAU-HOW Danmark, Team+ are expecting their design, Bolig+, to begin construction next year.

Competing with four further teams the Team+ concept was recognised for its accordance with the five outlined dogmas: “The winning entry’s recipe for a BOLIG+ project can be summarised in a few words," said the jury..."Good daylight, flexible dwellings in a compact, well insulated and tight building, designed to gain maximum benefit from the sun without overheating. A building complex fitted with the best technical solutions linking user behaviour, passive solar gain and the local fossil energy supply.”

Team+ employed the theme of 'kWh, kroner and quality' in their design which is orientated to allow the building surfaces to receive maximum solar energy through solar panels. The design utilises the sun whilst protecting from the wind, with their first thought upon seeing the baron site beside the water in Aalborg being 'windbreaks!' In the design an inner courtyard area is protected from the wind and the north-west balconies are screened off by the recesses.

The project was dubbed "+Housing 57o03'35''N 9o54'49''Ø to underline the unique position which is fundamental to the project in both climatic and cultural terms, giving rise to a new building which – in line with the local development plan – will differ markedly from the other developments in the area in terms of its idiom and materials.

Within the building the +apartments enjoy a high degree of flexibility and "customisation". The number of rooms and their location and combinations can for example be varied to match individual needs, and can be adapted over time. The same apartment type (e.g. 105 m2) can take the form of a 'loft', with a single large open space running right across the depth of the apartment, or a 'family residence' with up to three rooms in various combinations. The starting-point is a basic type equipped with a kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. In its construction and technical installations, the basic type has been designed to allow it to be easily adapted to all segments of the market and to the needs of the owner over time.
