Edifice’s industrial design in Pune, India uses architectural methods to form user connections

Indian Automobile giant Bajaj decided to set up a state of the art research and development centre on a 5 acre site of their 200 acre production plant at Pune, India. Two existing unused factory structures were demolished however the production plants and treatment centre at the corner were not to be relocated for technical and economic reasons.

The main entrance, a long and generous loggia space acts as a connective tissue between engineers, designers and visitors forming an active space that changes as staff communicate with the project on several levels. The loggia flows into a linear atrium, bisecting the access controlled private workspace on upper levels, encouraging visual communication and collaboration. The public and semi public functions on ground level can collapse into these generous volumes in case of an expo, a requirement desired by the client.
