Gatwick's new business campus designed by Nicholas Hare Architects

Nicholas Hare Architects have designed a unique business office and campus for Segro that has been let to the leading electronic systems company Thales. The design includes three office builidings (29,300 sq m) and a larger research building of 16,700 sq m.

The development changes the face of Manor Royal business park as it presents a new face on to London Road by Gatwick airport. The elegantly proportioned concrete framed office buildings are clad in an abstract regular grid of dark blue aluminium panels, with each building having a double height, double width base module continuing to the sub-divided bays of the individual storeys above.

This use of clear geometry met the client’s requirement to unite the office buildings of various height and, along with the landscaping, gives the project the desired ‘campus’ feel. The offices are set behind extensive formal linear planting of semi mature trees along the perimeter of the site with the very large silver clad research building nestling in the background. Much care has been taken to make the ‘back of house’ areas as attractive as the main elevations.

The buildings were designed to be let individually or can be adapted to provide further sub tenancies.
