...but in 2010, Morocco Mall is set to open

Morocco Mall is a shell-shaped shopping centre designed like a natural extension of the main Casablanca’s waterfront promenade. Scheduled for opening in late 2010, the imposing 200,000 sq m Morocco Mall embraces more then 250 shops and restaurants, including the first Galeriés Lafayette store in Africa, a 1 million litre aquarium and a 400-seat IMAX cinema. Galeriés Lafayette is designed like a gem inside the shopping centre, with skylights all around the store and malls that recreate the exterior environment with plenty of trees, gardens and water. Innovative technologies and a sustainable Design Strategy have been followed throughout Morocco Mall, which will become the new benchmark for energy efficient buildings in the shopping centre industry.

Design International was hired by the property developer Al Amine, a successful consortium between Aksal Group and Nesk Investment, two of the most important and dominant retailers in the emerging Moroccan market.

On October 25th 2009, Morocco Mall received the 5* Architecture Award Morocco in the Arabian Commercial Property Awards. The event is part of the International Property Awards, the world’s most prestigious competition dedicated to finding the best real estate professionals across the globe. As a 5* Award winner in the International Property Awards, Design International strengthens its recognition around the world as among the very best the shopping centre industry has to offer.
