Discreet Heat / ThermaSkirt 2014
For whom it may concern, here are my experiences with the product and install.
I recently had this product fitted into one room.
With the idea, if it was successful, I would then roll it out into eight other areas of our home.
I decided to contact the manufacturers and ask them about recommended installers. Not wishing to go at it half hearted, or to try and save money. Let the people who know the system take control.
They gave me the details of the nearest company who were indeed listed on the Discreet Heat website.
We agreed a price and the work was duly started.
First thing to note is, that this is NOT a DIY product. This was confirmed by the amount of swearing, cut hands and abuse given to the product by the installer.
The upshot of this is….. My house was left with scuffed paint work, marked walls, in three areas so much force was used to engage the skirting onto the clips, that I now have three large cracks in my wall. Basically my room needs total redecoration.
That apart the system does look like it’s been fitted by a DIYER as it has bits of plastic facia stuck on and a large amount of silicone sealant has been used to mask gaps.
Yes the product works, but it looks awful.
Here are some bits and bobs to consider.
The system is expensive to purchase and install.
If you think that if something costs a lot of money & therefore is a premium product, it is going to look the part, you are going to be severely disappointed.
Discreet Heat will not be interested in your complaint. They offered no back up, and were simply not interested. So this expensive product does not even come with a worthy after sales service that most expensive products do come with. All they want to do is wash their hands of any issues.
It does not work with softened water. So if your system is linked to a softener, you will have a problem.
If you retro fit it with existing flooring, then it will be fitted on top of it.
If you decide to change your flooring at a later date, and the new flooring is not as thick as the existing, then you will have a nasty gap around the perimeter, unless you are willing to go through the pain of getting someone in to un-install the system and lower it.
It goes without saying I will not be using this product in my remaining areas in the home.
I would have to say this was not one of my better decisions & regret my purchase.

Low level heating without the need to replace the floor

DiscreteHeat & ThermaSkirt® is the eco friendly heating solution. ThermaSkirt® is a new and innovative way of heating your room. ThermaSkirt® makes the most of a skirting board and radiator and turns it into effective, eco-friendly heating. Designed and manufactured in the UK by DiscreteHeat Company Limited, the system replaces your skirting boards and radiators in one. ThermaSkirt® will work with existing conventional boilers as well as renewables such as solar, ground source and air source heat pumps.

DiscreteHeat's ThermaSkirt® has been tested by BSRIA, fully complies with BS-EN 442 & carries the CE mark and in a like-for-like test against radiators was shown to be at least 13% more energy efficient. With the correct boiler & control system, fuels savings of up to 25% are possible. In test, ThermaSkirt® was proven to be the most efficient form of heating, giving the best uniform heat distribution, with only a ±1°C variation, compared to a radiator with a massive 13°C variation.

The effect of ThermaSkirt® is indistinguishable from under-floor heating in that it heats the room from all sides and at low level, and yet it is as simple to fit as a radiator. As it is as slim and discrete as a skirting board, it takes up no wall or floor space. Because it is above ground, it can be used with any floor construction or covering including timber and carpet and warms up the room quickly. ThermaSkirt® uses a unique aluminium alloy material that is 5 times more effective than steel at passing heat & can run efficiently at temperatures as low as 35°C & as high as 75°C.

DiscreteHeat has developed a complete range of patented push fit components so that any competent DIY enthusiast or local plumber (or joiner!) can fit the system quickly. ThermaSkirt® even connects to existing systems, and is ideal for both new build, extension and refurbishment applications. Over 4,000 systems have been successfully installed to date.
