Built by local residents using traditional methods, the wNw bar has a strong sense of community connection
Structures in many regions especially the Mekong Delta region in Vietnam, have over recent years been highly susceptible to flooding and the need for quickly erected, stable structures amongst locals in high risk flood areas is in demand. Vo Trong Nghia Co., Ltd. architects have been approaching this problem by creating a series of low cost, fast, easily accessible constructions. The solution, it seems is resorting back to the traditional method of bamboo constructions. Vo Trong have been involved in a number of similar projects in the region including the wNw cafe (also entered in the WAN commercial awards) . The 10 m main frame extends over 15 m in length and is made from 48 units of bamboo, this model of construction is intended to inspire similar models which can be quickly erected or deconstructed when needed in high risk flood areas. The cost of one model can be minimized by using local materials such as bamboo which is can be bought for as low as €0.75 per unit
