Announcing the Unbuilt Projects shortlist

Alexandria Masterplan, Alexandria, Egypt by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP. Rebuilding the Alexandria waterfront, this plan envisions the harbour as a connective loop uniting the city and its history.

Wandering Ecologies: Lower Don Lands, Toronto, Canada by Weiss/Manfredi. Wandering Ecologies establishes a new identity for a formerly industrial region of Toronto, where recreational, living, and cultural activities are free to wander and overlap, creating a new model for sustainable waterfront expansion on the eastern edge of the city

The New Water, The Hague, The Netherlands by Waterstudio NL. This project combines housing, ecology and water storage in a multifunctional zone. This new approach to urban development fits wet and threatened Dutch polder landscape.

Nordhavnen City Regenerative, Copenhagen, Denmark by FX FOWLE. This plan connects urban infrastructure, extends existing waterway, and weaves open space through a series of neighbourhoods and commercial nodes. The project sets a new standard for low-carbon consumption.

West Loop Park, Chicago, USA by Perkins + Will. This project serves as an example of how bridging over an existing highway can provide areas for new open space in downtown Chicago and serve as an urban catalyst for future growth.

Zagreb Airport, Zagreb, Croatia by Riegler Riewe Architekten. This project formulates the idea of integral planning, where elements constitute the whole: from the large scale landscaping pattern along the runway to the monumental terminal hall interior spaces.
