Basel's new retail experience
Stücki Shopping Basel opened its gates for the very first time today. With a rental space of 32,000 sq m, this new shopping center is the biggest in the Basel tri-border region. 260 million Swiss francs (approximately 170 million euro) have been invested in this project by client Tivona Eta AG.
Designed by local architects Diener & Diener, the Stücki Shopping Basel comprises two retail levels with two adjoining malls, respectively and uses innovative design flourishes to improve the shopping experience on a three dimensional basis. Each of the shopping streets extends over 250 meters - an exceptional shopping promenade with a total length of approximately two kilometres, inviting visitors to take a stroll and visit 120 shops and gastronomic outlets. An underground garage in the basement provides over 800 parking spaces.
The shopping center, under management company ECE, is supplied with climate-friendly energy, with waste heat from surrounding industrial plants being used for heating in winter and for cooling in summer. This process is facilitated by an absorption refrigerating system that transforms thermal into cold energy. The energy is transported via water conduits. Thanks to this sustainable energy concept, environmental pollution through carbon dioxide emission is significantly reduced.
