Austin-Smith:Lord have obtained planning consent for a new 1000 seat venue to replace the existing Civic Hall in Guildford

Austin-Smith:Lord have obtained planning consent for a new 1000 seat venue to replace the existing Civic Hall in Guildford. The new facility is designed to host a programme of musical events ranging from choral works to rock concerts, comedy, kid’s events and many other types of staged performance. The venue has the capability of converting to a flat floor format for conferences and functions. Construction of the new venue, commissioned by Guildford Borough Council, will follow the appointment of a contractor through a competitive tendering process. The consultant team includes, Scott Wilson, Roger Preston & Partners, Carr & Angier Theatre Consultants, Sound Research Laboratories, CM Parker Browne and Colliers CRE. The new venue creates an anchor at the upper end of Guildford High Street, and encourages diagonal public movement through the foyer to the parkland beyond. The transparency of the foyer areas contrasts strongly with the solid volume of the auditorium which is clearly visible within. The new venue is expected to be the catalyst to the creation of a vibrant new town quarter.
