Award winning design for new passenger terminal and airport development centre
The New passenger Terminal and Airport City project is an award winning proposal in an international competition. Tower 151 Architects together with their consultant team from Croatia, UK and Germany provided a fully sustainable design for the terminal of 72,000 M2 which could be extended from the 5 million PAX for 10 million PAX using similar moduls. The Airport City, a 500,000 M2 development zone with a new light railway was set up to work in 4 phases with possibility of pause between phases.
An airport is considered a gateway to both a country and a city to which it is located. It serves to provide a transport hub for international traffic and provide a “window“ into the aspirations of both that Country and City. We acknowledge the definition as above and have developed a project both as Function and Place.
The Terminal appears as a stone in a landscape. A stone which on first sight has no apparent origin but on closer examination reveals its unexpected yet compressible character, as one might find in visiting a place for the first time or finding a new object.
The Airport functions as an ensemble under one eco- enclosure within which the complex workings of the terminal are housed.
The location and plan both creates navigation for the passenger / user of the Airport to arrive to (and depart from) the Terminal, and sets-up supporting structures and functions which establish the sense of place and ambition of the Airport as the citadel of the new Airport City.
