On July 3, 2007, the foundation stone was laid for the "Media Factory" in Munich's Schwanthalerhöhe district, located directly next to Theresienhöhe and Bavariapark. The planned urban ensemble around the heterogeneous existing building complex that has grown up over various epochs constitutes a set of edifices that both offer different spaces for activities and communications and, on the other integrates the old buildings and created an "overall campus" for the film and media industry. The key idea behind the design is to foster interaction between the "old" and the "new" -- between the old buildings that have been integrated and the modern architecture. The plan is to provide 22,000 sq. m. of GFA with freely-configurable rental properties with the feel of lofts. Plazas of different qualities arise from the skilful composition of new buildings and the integration of the older structures. The key identity of the zone is created by four two-storey glass cubes that function as eye-catchers for the "Medienfabrik". In addition, the glass cubes function as a guidance system in the complex. The free zones in the "Medienfabrik" is positioned in keeping with Feng Shui principles and both forges a link between the different buildings and usage areas and connects the new complex as it arises with the existing district.
