The Rebirth of Trolley Square

Trolley Square is Salt Lake City’s retail heart and its second most popular tourist destination. Composed of three trolley barns built in 1908, this National Historic Landmark now houses more than 80 upscale stores. The distinctive buildings featuring mission-style gabled bays served as the city’s trolley maintenance barns and later, bus barns, until it was converted in the 1970s to an unusual and highly popular retail mall.

MulvannyG2 Architecture designed the shopping center by bringing the largest of the buildings up-to-date with new concourses, reinstating existing skylights, new finishes, and new lighting intended to create a fresh shopping experience, while keeping the memorable features and spaces that makes Trolley Square unique.
