...i refer to my previous posting where i mentioned that the bridge could be like the bridge design in Sandton, well the bridge is - correction in Newtown, Jo'burg.

I agree with Mariette, it looks ordinary( in relation to the CAPE TOWN(stadium), unoriginal and the it leaves much to be desired. I has to many steps, which is understandable to accommodate the bigger vehicles that will pass under it - but one will still find the ordinary folk choosing the road appose to the bridge at intervals.

perhaps a smaller version of the bridge built in Sandton, Johannesburg would have been much appropriate. I would say with a longer base would accommodate such a bridge, perhaps?

I also find it un-wheelchair-friendly. Persons with wheelchairs will still need to use the road or even a small strip where you can or will be able to roll/push your bicycle or alike along the side like in many europian cities.

this is not negative feedback but perhaps challenges the planners can have a look at when planning their next pedestrian bridge with a democratic society in mind.

Greet job guys anyway...
i feel proud to be a citizen of this beautiful country, this city that we can shape and create as a democratic identity!!!

they could really have designed something beautiful, exciting and modern. this is a really boring looking bridge.
 

Simple and elegant steel bridges over Buitengracht Street for World Cup 2010 

The development and upgrading of the infrastructure of Cape Town in preparation for the 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa required the re-assessment of the City’s urban framework.

To improve pedestrian movement between the CBD and the newly constructed Green Point Stadium, next to the world famous V&A Waterfront, it was decided to development a new pedestrian axis between the two nodes. The R35m (ZAR) project is due for completion in December 2009, and will include two pedestrian bridges across Buitengracht street, one at Coen Steytler Avenue and one at Waterkant Street.

The pedestrian and cycle friendly link will enable people to walk or cycle from the station to the stadium without having to cross a number of busy roads along the way.

A consortium of professionals, including Vela VKE Consulting Engineers as part of the Foreshore Freeway Consortium, Arcus Gibb Civil Engineers and the Architectural firms of COA and Gapp Architects/Urban Designers were directly or indirectly appointed by the City of Cape Town to be involved in designing these bridges.
