Moe & Løvseth sompletes new swimming centre in Norway
The aim for this project was to create an experience of swimming in the west coast landscape, with the characteristic river delta and surrounding mountainsides. Big glazed curtain walls give a fantastic view towards the mountains. At the same time the project manage to create a secluded atmosphere indoor. New earthworks and vegetation screen the pools from the surrounding houses.
The main hall faces south towards the river, in order to obtain the best solar conditions. It is divided into several zones, separating quiet and noisy activities. The varying roof heights also improve the acoustics. The main swimming pool, water slides and the climbing wall are facing east. The therapy pool and the family pool are situated in the middle, while the area for small children and the recreation zone are situated towards east.
The entrance zone, with lockers and other supporting services is placed in a separate block, facing north. The external pool faces the river to the south.
The main structure and the pools are made of in-situ concrete, while the glazed facades have steel support. The locker rooms wing is coated with black ceramic tiles. The ceilings are in perforated metal panels.
Høyanger is known for its aluminum industry, and Høyanger Swimming Centre makes use of its surplus heat through a district heating system which heats all the water in the centre.
