Grupo M completes new synagogue in Mexico City
Shaare Tefila Synagogue's conceptual design has as its objective to build an enclosure that characterises the principles of Judaism.
To comfort the spirit and cultivate human values, the task was to create an architectural expression containing the rites and symbology of hebrew traditions. A contemporary style building was created, with simultaneously severe and calm spaces.
The idea was to transform human dimension into spiritual dimension. The constructed image is based on the nature of the materials starting with the millenarian stone of Jerusalem, contrasting with the light alabaster, another millenarian stone, that together give a historical and timeless sense. The architectonic composition shows a sequence that starts in the hollow cylinder of the hall and finishes off in the imposing cylinder of the Hejal, that which contains the Torah.
The building's simple and pure lines create a majestic simplicity that can be seen from the very smallest detail.
