Design for the Telus Tower in Toronto released

There’s nothing Sweeny Sterling Finlayson &Co Architects like more than working with companies who walk the talk. So when Menkes Development Ltd. and Telus wanted to build “The future is friendly”, they afforded &Co Architects and Adamson Associates Architects the opportunity to take part in a groundbreaking project, and they were excited in a big way.

The new 32-storey tower will play a vibrant role in ensuring the future is indeed friendly. Located in the heart of downtown, linked directly to both the Air Canada Centre and Union Station, this building will not only bring together 2,000 of the company’s employees currently dispersed across the Greater Toronto Area, it will also serve as a milestone achievement in energy conservation, environmental leadership, and embraces human well being.

Why do we love this project? Because Menkes and Telus aren’t going green for the tax rebates or other incentives—there aren’t any. They’re going green because they wants to be part of a better future, not to mention creating the most effective response to the present, in which so many young professionals have opted for downtown living over suburban commutes. From individual fresh-air control and high-performance windows to natural, artificial and indirect lighting, daylight harvesting, rain water collection and reuse from an on-site cistern, right down to bicycle storage areas and change rooms for those walking or pedalling to work, the Telus Tower will set new precedents in modern technological sophistication and push the boundaries of the green workplace movement. Both Menkes and Telus are about driving positive change and together we are ensuring that the Future is Friendly.
