BBG-BBGM design for Bangkok offers timeless design
The new 31-storey, 342-key Sofitel Sukhumvit in Bangkok is expressed architecturally through classic limestone, pre-cast concrete, stainless steel, and glass. These materials are woven into a timeless design that is experienced at several distinct levels. At the pedestrian level, the lobby offers fully glazed walls enabling views onto the street, while passengers on the city’s Sky Train will have direct views into public spaces on levels one through three. A series of graceful, symmetrical setbacks at the building’s lower levels are repeated as the tower approaches its peak, and together, these elements culminate in a signature circular crown that is visible from all directions in the Bangkok skyline.
In addition to 342 guestrooms, the hotel features 34 suites, six food and beverage outlets, 1,400 SM of meeting space, a health club, swimming pool and spa. Guests’ arrival is heralded by a stainless steel and glass canopy, leading into a triple volume lobby atrium. A three-story glass box on the southern face of the building’s base houses the reception area, adding drama and balancing the tower’s massing.
The limited size of the building site posed a significant design challenge. BBG-BBGM developed an efficient yet refined 51,400 SM building that met all of the program requirements without sacrificing any of the luxury that guests associate with the Sofitel brand.
