Randall Stout Architects design the Art Museum of Western Virginia

Erection of the facility’s structural and roof steel is almost complete, and installation of the metal panels that form the exterior wall enclosure of the facility has begun. Made of pre-patinated zinc surfaces on aluminum panels, the shingled exterior wall panels will give an earthen, aged quality to the building façade. Installation of the ZEPPS panels (Zahner Engineered Profiled Panel System), which are used to provide the protruding, cantilevered edges of the facility’s undulating roof also has begun. Once these panels and the remaining roofing substructure are in place, the building will be ready for the stainless steel roof application. Installation of the building’s glass curtain wall will begin in next month and continue through the summer. Ceiling roughing-in of the electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems is underway, and interior wall framing has begun on the ground level. The building is scheduled to open to the public in the fall of 2008.
