Cologne hospital lets the sun shine in
The Heart Centre, equipped with state of the art medical technology, welcomes its patients and visitors with a 20-metre high glassed entrance. The structure-high reception hall is flooded with light and is more reminiscent of a hotel than of a clinic. Deciduous trees and warm materials, such as cherry wood, provide a pleasant atmosphere in which to linger.
The colour-based design of the individual wards makes them bright and inviting. Intimate rooms that provide places of retreat, as well as rooms in which to visit with family and friends, also help to promote patient recovery. In the children’s clinic on the 2nd floor, parent rooms and play areas are connected to an outside playground via pergolas covered in plants.
The facade of the Heart Centre is covered with light-coloured, shell-limestone facing and is ordered by means of reddish, shimmering aluminum shading devices. All these elements give the building its unmistakable appearance.
Special fields catered for by the clinic include
heart-thorax surgery, cardiology, pediatric cardiology and vascular surgery
