Chetwoods Architects has completed George House, the new £12.2 million headquarters for Asda’s George clothing division
The 7,900 sqm building was undertaken as a dual-pronged exercise in innovative design and value for money. It is a three storey building located on a brown field site in Lutterworth, Leicestershire. This semi-industrial context inspired a materials palette and design that features a language of planes and wraps using profiled cladding systems, pre-cast concrete and flat aluminium panels, to create an exciting building.
Chetwoods was appointed by Gazeley in 2005. The client identified the need for environmental consideration and the building achieves a BREEAM Very Good rating. It features high levels of daylight, efficient heating systems and recycled materials.
The building contains the design studio accommodating 560 staff, informal meeting areas and coffee points, as well as café areas and mock shops that allow full scale trials of typical shop displays before they go live.
The design and build contract took 15 months to complete.
