After six months of construction the Riva Split in the heart of Croatia has completed
Considering the exceptionally valuable position in the city of Split, the competition program had very precise requirements for respecting the cultural and historical heritage. Riva has become the city's most important public space in the last hundred years and is the site of concerts, parades and protests (even when citizens protest against its renovation). The 24707m² renovation has tried to keep the Mediterranean character of the space and give it new value with modern design. The promenade is defined in space with the outdoor cafés on the north and with light sources, palms and a series of three differently shaped parks on the south. Studio 3LHD has used screens made for the outdoor cafés not only as the protection from sun and wind, but making it possible to set the sunscreen/sail vertically, turning it into a projection screen by night. This is in fitting with flexibility of the whole of this urban project.
