London's transport authority receive new home
A new build facility for Transport for London at Rickmansworth, this operational building consists of a restaurant, internet cafe and shower and changing facilities for train operators as well as a range of offices for the operational managers on the Metropolitan Line.
The building is carefully orientated and the scale broken up to avoid overlooking the neighbouring houses and to reflect their scale. External materials are traditional and low maintenance with brick cladding interspersed with panels of green oak.
The site is bordered by the railway line with its cable systems and services and a narrow residential street. The scheme was developed on a very narrow site at the foot of a steep embankment with issues of public access, local residents’ privacy and direct access for rail staff from the platform.
