£100 million regeneration plan approved at planning stage
A £100 million regeneration blueprint for Leicester Tigers rugby union club designed by AFL Architects has been approved by the planning committee.
Pushed forward by the Frank Whittle Partnership the project will see the land surrounding the under-construction, £30 million stadium developed, adding a four-star hotel, multi-storey car park and major office development. The scheme includes a new building for Leicester's hospitals and accommodation for students in the city.
David Clayton, managing director of Leicester Tigers, is delighted with the planners’ decision to give permission for the innovative project. He said: “The scheme we've put forward with our partners is very exciting for the city.
“We are not looking to make a return. We have put a scheme together that satisfies the needs of key organisations in Leicester.”
At least two major hotel groups are vying to build a 141-room luxury hotel on site. Other proposals include a grand plaza linking the hotel with the Tigers stadium.
